BMW recommends maintenance at 600 miles after the motorcycle is placed in operation, and then every 6,000 miles for post-airhead BMWs. There are two levels of maintenance procedures called a Service and an Inspection, with the Inspection generally being more intensive.

In addition to the mileage-related maintenance procedures, there are also time-related procedures (such as replacing brake fluid, clutch fluid, and coolant) that are not included in the Service or Inspection.

Airhead era BMWs use the terms Inspection I and Inspection II to describe the levels of maintenance. These maintenance schedules also include mileage-related and time-related procedures.

Specific recommended maintenance procedures vary with the model and year. Click on the box that represents your model and year to display the BMW recommended maintenance schedules. You will need the Acrobat Reader to view the maintenance schedules.
